Question:
Hi I have purchased a Thunder Tiger pro 46 . Model no.9141 I was wondering if tightness is a common problem with these . This engine has only had 6 tanks of fuel through it and never run lean enough to damage it . Looking through the port the piston has NO discoloration on it at all it looks new. Problems are. When turnning over by hand it is very tight at top end ( almost sqeeking) It seeems to run hot even at rich setting . I have another head gasket that came with it would that help to install on top of other one? I have heard of people doing this to cool down engines that run hot. It has never been in an airplane because of these problems. I own another one of these but never had any of the above problems . I live in Canada and purchased this at a clearout sale of old new stock in las vegas a year or so ago and have just decided to put to use the engine is new . Please advise of what is best for me to do .
Answer:
Dear Ken, Thanks for your email. Because the travel of the piston is slightly taper at the top end, it should be tight when turning over by hand. The engine might not have completed breaking in yet. Besides, to add a head gasket to the engine can lower a little temperature but also loses some performance.
